Astrid Tomrop-Hofmann

Astrid, originally from Germany, has been living in Ireland for four decades. She has been working as a freelance textile artist under the name bombyxMori wearable art. In 2015, Astrid completed a three year certificate in felting “Fit in Filz” in Oberrot, Germany. She received further education under well-known textile artists in Ireland and Germany. For more than 20 years bombyxMori has been exhibiting in Ireland’s Trade Show in Dublin.

She is a member of Feltmakers Ireland and textile group “Textile Journey”, as well as Design Crafts Council of Ireland.

In the words of Astrid herself:
“I’m captivated by the expressiveness of different wool types, and the dialogue of art and craft with silk, paper and recycled pieces through a millenium old technique. The time spent creating a piece is very precious to me, and I love the idea of creating something to send on a journey to be enjoyed by others.”
